She smiled at the cloud of butterflies that seethed around her. The bright sunshine glinted of their numerous wings, flashing shades of emerald, blue, sapphire and gold in her eyes. They whispered through her long, wheat colored hair, and playfully tugged at her soft green dress. They danced across her face, giving her true butterfly kisses. Suddenly though, they began to scream. It was a terrible, grating, rough sound that tore through her ears. The woman's eyes widened in pure terror as she watched the precious wings of her butterflies break into a thousand pieces. Their ruby red blood splattered her face, and peppered her entire body. Rain started to pour from an unchecked sky in heavy torrents. The day surrounding her turned dark, as the water fell and washed away the tiny, lifeless bodies. The screaming stopped, replaced by the thuderous roar of an opened faucet. The woman revelled in the clean feel of water, but only for a moment, because as she looked down at her shaking hands, the water turned to blood. She watched as the vibrant hue of red cloaked her, staining the ground, and changing the color of her hair. It blossomed across her skin, and ate away her dress, leaving her naked and vulnerable. She fell to her knees and grabbed at the ground, seeking comfort in the solidity of it. But it began to crumble away, the grass withering and turning to dust, then the entire plot of earth in front of her falling away, into a black abyss of nothing. The rain washed it away, everything, even the ground beneath her. It left her stranded, suspended in the gruesome rain. Shuddering, teeth chattering, the woman gripped herself, legs twining together, arms wrapping around her torso, her body contracting, curling into a ball. Even the rain sought to destroy that though. It thudded onto her skull, sinking into skin, going through bone, and diving inside her, like a burrowing insect. Her scream rent through the night, as she saw her hands fall away. No pain coursed through her, but she could feel the skin falling away, then muscle, bone and anything left. She was overcome by despair and horror as every part of her dripped away, like wax falling away from a hot wick. Finally, her own body was gone, stripped brutually away, leaving her soul, scared and cowering. The poor woman was even denied that however, as the blood swept away her soul, the very essence of her cut into small pieces, just like the butterlies wings.
